She was a woman that worked hard herself; she would wash and iron and cook and milk her cows and work in the garden or field if it was necessary. She was not like most the white ladies around here.” Thomas Staten lived on Henrietta’s place on Island 102 for 2 years.
Again, the Bibergau register does not support the birth of any child to Simon in 1816 or 1820. Henrietta’s first grandchild, Bettie and Jim’s daughter Henrietta Jane Witherow was born July 18, 1874, at Waggaman, La. The following year, Henrietta’s first grandson Joseph Francis Witherow was born in December 1875. Did the new grandmother, perhaps with her daughter Jennie, make trips to Waggaman to help the new mother and cuddle the new babies? Given that Bettie was only 16 years old at the birth of her first child, I suspect that she did. Perhaps Henrietta wrote to her mother Fanni about Fanni’s American great-grandchildren.

That entry, made no earlier than 1857 but perhaps much later, records Moses Geisenberger’s birth in May 1816 in Bibergau. The same Bible records Henrietta Geisenberger’s birth in 1820 in Traustadt. No father’s name is given in the Bible for Moses or Henrietta.
Gertrude Philippsborn, a local historian of the Vicksburg, Mississippi, area concluded that people moved to Millikin’s Bend because it was the big harbor for Vicksburg and money was made there. Many Jews took part in the 1848 revolutionary uprisings in Germany. Bavaria was one of the main regions from which Jews came to America, and Bibergau was one town from which Jews left. By 1867, among 549 population of Bibergau, only 91 Jews (17% of the population) remained. At this time, in fact from the 1820’s to about 1880, Jewish immigration into the US almost entirely was made up of immigrants from Germany.

Henrietta, widowed when she moved onto Island 102, was just 32 years old, and her daughter Bettie was about 5 years, Jennie, 4 years, and her son Louis, about 2 years old. Simon was again left a widower with four children, namely Lazarus , 11 years, Isaac, 4 years, Joseph, 1 year, and Carolina, a newborn infant. On March 20, 1826, nine months after Bessla’s death, Bessla’s younger sister Kehla, from Gunzenhausen, married Simon in Bibergau. At that time, Simon was about 35 years old, and his bride Kehla, about 25 years old. Sadness hit the family only a few months later, with the death of Low Griebel, 8 years old, in November of that year. In March 1827, only weeks shy of her first wedding anniversary, Kehla gave birth to a daughter they named Carolina.

I grew up alongside Pigeon Creek. The over 1,000-acre park was used for concerts and other events following the Olympics. It continues to be open to the public for horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, geocaching, and other activities.
I am glad I didn't listen to critics and watched this movie! It is a very good movie with charm, humor, sadness and most of all, genial acting! Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas are the two characters that you can relate to. I think what makes this movie good is that it is a story you can relate to, but made with humor.

I enjoyed Sweet Home Alabama, too, and had always wondered if the part about the lightning-strike sand-glass was true or not -- but never got around to researching it. It was very interesting to read the facts behind the dramatization. The communities south of Atlanta have been full of film productions over the last few years.
There is not one sympathetic character in the movie and the predictable script and story line is akin to hitting yourself repeatedly over the head with a rubber mallet. Classic old school romantic comedies at least had the decency to make the other man a git, or at least plotting or not wanting to marry her themselves. I would comment on the blatant racist north America south America overtones but I don't really know enough about this to comment. Not bad acting performances from all the cast despite the script and plot.

To be fair, though, the problems began before Tennant ever came on board, and it falls directly on writers Douglas J. Eboch and C. Jay Cox , who cranked out a story/screenplay that is decidedly uninspired and lacks any semblance of originality whatsoever. The DVD is fine but the picture is not "reference" quality. The sound is Dolby 5.1 but surround channels are not very dynamic.

There is something very special about wind chimes created by pieces of "fossilized lightning." Something purely natural and at the same time mysterious. Because of this act, which was considered to be impetuous, the God of the Sea, Neptune, "sentenced" her to a life way out in the ocean, never to come near the Schooner or her beloved Captain again.

So, of course, I figured now would be a good time to rent it and find out what this movie was about. Over all, I'd say it was a bit over rated, but still a watchable romantic comedy. In the last scenes, we see a more sentimental Jake, who still loves Melanie and is hurt that she's going to get married (dude, it's been 7 years without you guys talking to each other).

Crazy Credits
The writing is smart and funny, the directing fits the comedic mood of the story, and the acting is just right. Although it is a quite different film from "Legally Blonde" and "Election", I enjoyed it just as much, and will enjoy it upon repeat viewings. The streets and storefronts of Crawfordville, Georgia, were used as the backdrop for the Catfish Festival and other downtown scenes.
Josh Lucas makes a fabulous performance as Jake, her estranged high school Hubby who's never got her out of his mind. If you are in the mood for a good old fashioned romance with some great country thrown in then this is the one for you, i've lost count how many times i have seen this now and i'll never tire of it. Even if this isn't your kind of film i challenge you to watch it and not feel good, practically impossible. Delightful characters throughout and constantly entertaining!
Heavy's Barbeque
Jake -her husband- doesn't want a divorce and they spend at least 20 minutes of the film fighting and hating each other for that, which would make you assume what caused their marriage to fail... After that, Melanie reunites with some of her old friends and one night while she is drunk, she insults them by telling them, in other words, they're some big losers with stagnant lives. Fantastic, had me hooked from the start, they were on to a winner as soon as they cast Dakota Fanning as 'young' Melanie. Now i'm a sucker for good 'chick Flicks' and this one tops my list, Reese shines as Melanie, the girl who realises that what she's been looking for was right there at home waiting for her.
